Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) is set to host its inaugural Tree Planting & Climate Action Summit on July 17th, 2024. This is a bold initiative aimed at combating environmental challenges and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of its expansive campus.

Spanning an impressive 713.85 hectares, COOU boasts the largest landholding in Anambra State. However, an alarming revelation shows that more than half of this vast expanse designated for academic activities remains devoid of trees. This has not only subjected students and staff to harsh weather conditions but also posed risks such as structural damage during extreme weather seasons.

Under the theme "One Student-One Tree; One Staff-One Tree," the university community, together with corporate and media partners, will converge to sow the seeds of change. The initiative aims not only to beautify the campus but also to fortify its resilience against climate impacts.

The event promises to be a collaborative effort, with participants engaging in tree-planting activities across designated areas of the campus. Additionally, educational sessions and workshops will highlight the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices in mitigating climate change.
