Covenant University recently hosted the Southwest-II 7th Zonal CODET Engineering Students’ Project 2024 Competition, showcasing innovative projects from universities across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States.
Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, recently hosted the Southwest-II (Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States) 7th Zonal CODET Engineering Students’ Project 2024 Competition, organized by the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET).

The event, held at Covenant University's College of Engineering, featured esteemed industry judges including Dr. (Engineer) Felix Ajuebor, Engr Eze Simeon, and Engr Adewale George Adeyemi, evaluating projects from prominent institutions such as Lagos State University, University of Ibadan, Bells University of Technology, and more.
Professor David O. Olukanni, Dean of the College of Engineering at Covenant University, emphasized the competition's significance in showcasing innovative engineering projects. He outlined the competition's stages, from initial selections at participating universities to the zonal level, culminating in the final stage in Abuja.
Projects presented at the competition demonstrated cutting-edge innovations. Notable presentations included Felix Owabromate Joshua’s ‘Development of an IoT Home Model,’ aimed at enhancing accessibility for the physically challenged, and Bankole Tobiloba’s ‘ZoomBot’ utilizing Arduino and Raspberry Pi for industrial automation.

Yusirat Damilola Alimi showcased an ‘Automatic Syringe Infusion Pump’ from the University of Ibadan, addressing healthcare challenges with IoT technology. Additionally, Covenant University's team presented sustainable ‘Roofing Planks from Plastic and Rice Husks,’ and Bells University's Biomedical Engineering Group exhibited a ‘Low-Cost Electrospinning Machine’ for nanofiber fabrication.
Engr Eze Simeon praised the caliber of projects and urged continuous improvement, emphasizing the pivotal role of educators in nurturing talent. The University of Ibadan emerged first in the single project category, while Covenant University topped the group project category.
In closing remarks, Professor David O. Olukanni commended all participants for their efforts and encouraged preparation for the national competition. He underscored the competition's role in fostering innovation and practical engineering applications.
The event concluded with acknowledgments to faculty, staff, and industry partners for their contributions to advancing engineering education and excellence in Nigeria.
