Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM) in collaboration with the International Mathematical Union (IMU) organized one-day workshop for 300 and 400 level undergraduate female students in Mathematics.

The Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM) in collaboration with the International Mathematical Union (IMU) organized one-day workshop for 300 and 400 level undergraduate female students in Mathematics with the theme "BREAKING THE BARRIERS TO WOMEN AND GIRLS IN MATHEMATICS THROUGH NETWORKING, COLLABORATION AND MENTORSHIP IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA.”

The workshop, which was graced by Dr. Basaky and Dr. Yemi Peters (both from the Department of Computer Science), brought together young female mathematicians from the Mathematics and Statistics Departments to discuss issues bordering on mentorship, collaboration, and career opportunities in the two disciplines.

Some of the topics covered by different speakers include “Hindrances to succeeding in careers in Mathematics” by Dr. (Mrs.) Chinwendu E. Madubueze, “Career opportunities in Mathematics for female and how to achieve them" by Miss. Deborah Kanubala, “Relevant attitudes and qualities for a successful career in Mathematics” by Dr. (Mrs.) Queensley C. Chukwudum, “Building the bridges to achieve a higher number of female researchers in Mathematics” by Prof. (Mrs.) D. O. Makinde, and the experience sharing session which was coordinated by Dr. (Mrs.) Helen Edogbanya.
