Embrace Leadership with Integrity—VC Charges New FUNAABSU Executives

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has urged the newly elected executives of the FUNAAB Students' Union (FUNAABSU) to embrace integrity-driven leadership while equipping themselves with life skills necessary to thrive beyond the University walls.

Prof. Kehinde gave the charge during the inauguration ceremony of the 2025/2026 Academic Session FUNAABSU Executive Council, held on June 4, 2025, at the Green Chamber of the University.

Describing leadership as an opportunity for self-development and service, the Vice-Chancellor expressed delight at the smooth and peaceful transition of student leadership. He stressed that leadership was not just an academic extension, but a critical phase in acquiring skills such as negotiation, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.

He encouraged the new executives to carry out their responsibilities diligently, build a commendable legacy, and sustain a strong relationship with the Student Affairs Division. Prof. Kehinde also commended the FUNAAB Independent Electoral Committee (FUNIEC) for conducting a credible and violence-free election.

Also speaking, the Dean of Student Affairs Division, Prof. Festus Adeosun, congratulated the new leaders and reiterated the importance of maintaining open communication with the Division. He emphasised that the Student Affairs Office remained the appropriate channel through which the Union can engage the University Management.

In his farewell remarks, the outgoing Union President, Comrade Adeyemi Ibraheem, counselled the new leaders to always embrace dialogue, reminding them that Management remained an ally in the collective mission to enhance student welfare.

In his inaugural address, the newly sworn-in President, Comrade Isaiah Olamilekan, pledged to lead with transparency and dedication. He outlined his administration’s focus on student welfare, accountability, and infrastructural improvement. Comrade Olamilekan affirmed his commitment to consultation as a strategic approach to conflict resolution and called on all students to support his team in actualising their collective goals.
