The Bishops of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu have formally blessed the newly established Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation (CeDFoCI) at the DNA Learning Center Nigeria, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

The Bishops of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu have formally blessed the newly established Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation (CeDFoCI) at the DNA Learning Center Nigeria, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

The blessing ceremony, held on Monday, March 23, 2026, was led by Most Rev. Callistus Valentine Onaga, alongside the Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo. The bishops were received on arrival by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, together with the Deputy Director of DNALC Nigeria, Mr. Michael Okoro, and members of staff.

As part of the visit, the bishops toured the facility and were briefed on its capabilities, including DNA profiling, paternity testing, forensic investigation, education, and advanced scientific research. The centre is designed to support both academic training and applied forensic science in Nigeria.

The programme also featured a virtual address by the Chairman of the Board and Director of DNALC Nigeria, Prof. George Ude, who joined from the United States. He expressed appreciation for the ecclesiastical support and continued encouragement for the development of the centre. In his remarks, Bishop Onaga commended Prof. Ude for his leadership and commitment to advancing the initiative.

The establishment and blessing of the Centre marks a key milestone toward its full operational launch. The facility is positioned to serve as a hub for forensic innovation, DNA analysis training, and scientific research, with broader implications for justice delivery and evidence-based investigations in Nigeria.

The Centre for DNA Forensics and Criminal Investigation is expected to strengthen the application of forensic science in legal and investigative processes while contributing to academic advancement in biotechnology and related fields.
