The Enugu State Government has addressed confusion over education tax for private schools, refuting claims of a mandatory N5 million payment.

The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, clarified that the actual fees range from N100,000 to N300,000, depending on the school's category, as previously announced in June.

Prof. Mbah urged the public to disregard erroneous reports about exorbitant fees, stating that new and existing private schools are required to either register for provisional approval or renew their licenses within the specified fee range. He emphasized that these measures aim to maintain educational standards and streamline the administration of private schools.

The commissioner accused some defaulters of spreading misinformation in an attempt to undermine the government's efforts to regulate unlicensed schools, which face severe penalties. He assured that the administration, led by Governor Peter Mbah, remains committed to educational reforms and upholding standards in Enugu's educational sector.
