Speaking at his 39th inaugural lecture titled “Deconstructing Stereotypes and Reconstructing the Image of Africa in the Global Media: The Public Relations Nexus,” Udeze highlighted the critical role of honesty and ethical behavior in improving public relations.

In his address, Udeze attributed Africa’s negative global perception to widespread corruption and sycophancy among its leaders. He criticized the Western media for perpetuating damaging stereotypes, which portray Africa in an unfavorable light, including outdated and inaccurate depictions of Africans.

“Africa’s negative behaviors, particularly corruption, contribute to the damaging images of Africa,” Udeze said. “Our leaders must rethink their actions and foster positive public relations to revamp the continent’s image.”
