FAMSAS College of Health Science & Technology Denies "Peaceful Protest" Narratives; Clarifies Disciplinary Actions

The Management of FAMSAS College of Health Science and Technology, Keffi, has issued a formal clarification regarding the disciplinary measures taken against several students following an incident at the college gate on Monday, April 27, 2026.

In an official statement released by the Office of the Registrar on May 8, 2026, the institution categorically rejected claims circulating on social media that the event was a legitimate or peaceful "tuition fee hike protest."

According to the Registrar, Mr. Sharu Bala Abubakar, the unrest was sparked by "unverified claims" of fee increases spread through WhatsApp groups. The management detailed that the situation quickly escalated beyond a grievance into "coordinated misconduct,"

The college clarified that at the time of the incident, no new tuition or practical fees had been officially implemented. While the institution asserted its right as a private entity to adjust fees in line with "prevailing economic realities," it maintained that all such changes are communicated through proper institutional channels, which were bypassed by the students involved.

The statement emphasized that the disciplinary actions taken were a direct response to a "grave breach of college peace and institutional order," rather than a suppression of free speech. Management reaffirmed that acts of intimidation and the use of weapons cannot, by any stretch of reasoning, be described as a peaceful protest.

The institution has urged the public to disregard misleading narratives, stressing that the safety and orderly administration of the college remain its top priorities.
