FASU and NUGA Officials Inspect Facilities as LASU Gears Up to Co-Host 11th Africa University Games

Lagos State University (LASU) is set to co-host the 11th All Africa University Games, named Lagos 2024, and officials from the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) recently conducted a comprehensive inspection of LASU's facilities. The visit, spanning two days from June 12th, 2024, aimed to assess the university's readiness for the prestigious event scheduled from September 20th to 29th, 2024.

Led by Dr. Bawa Mohammed, President of NUGA, the seven-member delegation expressed confidence in LASU's preparedness following their inspection. Dr. Mohammed commended LASU's recent accreditation of 44 programmes and applauded Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello for her exemplary leadership and the university's hospitality.
Vice Chancellor Olatunji-Bello assured that LASU is committed to hosting the best FASU Games ever, highlighting ongoing facility upgrades and branding efforts. She confirmed the availability of hostel accommodations for approximately 1500 student athletes and outlined plans for athletes to experience Lagos State's notable tourist attractions under adequate security measures.
During the inspection, the delegation visited key venues including the FASU Games Secretariat, LASU Sports Centre, Academic Resource Centre, Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, and new student hostels, all slated for various activities during the games. The tour concluded with Dr. Mohammed expressing satisfaction with LASU's level of preparedness at the Senate Building.
Accompanying the officials were Prof. Afolabi Lesi and Dr. Joseph Awoyinfa from the University of Lagos, underscoring the collaborative effort between LASU and UNILAG for the successful hosting of Lagos 2024.
The inspection drew participation from LASU management, Local Organising Sub-Committees, and university officials, affirming the university's commitment to delivering a world-class sporting event that promotes African university sportsmanship and camaraderie.
