The Federal Government has unveiled plans to construct student hostels in 36 tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono, during a meeting with the new leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Echono highlighted that there will be increased allocations for the maintenance of TETFund infrastructures over five years in the 2024 intervention cycle. He also expressed the government's commitment to construct more hostels once the initial set is completed.

Furthermore, Echono promised to address the NANS secretariat issue and collaborate with the Ministry of Education. He emphasized the importance of involving students in joint monitoring of projects across beneficiary institutions.

NANS President Lucky Emonefe commended the government's efforts and pledged the association's support in monitoring and protecting educational infrastructure. Senator Ned Nwoko, a member of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, also attended the meeting and expressed the committee's support for Nigerian students.
