Federal Government Urged to Harness Polytechnic Research Findings for National Development

The Federal Government has received a call to leverage research findings from various polytechnics across the nation for the purpose of advancing national growth and development. Dr Usman Sani Tunga, the Rector of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, made this appeal during the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) Week, national conference, and a fund-raising event for the ASUP Secretariat Building held in Birnin Kebbi.

Highlighting the pivotal role that polytechnics play in national development, Dr Tunga emphasized the need for adequate funding to enable these institutions to contribute significantly to the progress of the nation. He underscored the importance of addressing issues such as banditry, insurgency, and other criminal activities, asserting that decisive actions are imperative for national security.

In his address, the Deputy Governor of the state, Senator Umar Abubakar, who represented Governor Nasiru Idris, acknowledged the mandate of polytechnics in producing high and middle manpower. He emphasized the potential of polytechnics in propelling economic and social development through the application of science, technology, and management principles.
