Rector, Mrs. Edumma Enobong Essien, made the statement last Thursday during the inauguration of the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) officials.

The Federal Polytechnic, Ukana has reaffirmed its dedication to delivering quality educational and entrepreneurial training to equip Nigerian youths for global competitiveness. Rector, Mrs. Edumma Enobong Essien, made the statement last Thursday during the inauguration of the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) officials.

Mrs. Essien congratulated the student leaders on their electoral victory and urged them to prioritize academics while avoiding all forms of misconduct, reiterating the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline. She also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a timely and visionary initiative to support students financially.

In his goodwill message, Registrar Mr. Idhigu Lucky encouraged students to uphold their matriculation oath and maintain a peaceful, conducive academic environment. The Bursar, Sir Emmanuel Esomonu, urged students to take full advantage of NELFUND, assuring them of technical support from the bursary department.

During the event’s opening remarks, Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Fred Itotaziba, thanked the management for fostering a favourable learning environment and promised continued collaboration between the student body and the institution. Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr. Jude Inyangetoh, described the recent elections as free, fair, and credible, covering both the SUG Executive and the Students’ Union Parliament.

The ceremony culminated in the formal inauguration of the SUG Executive Council and Students’ Union Parliament by the Rector. In his inaugural address, SUG President, Comrade Raphael Dominic Akpan, pledged to serve the student body diligently and to maintain a constructive partnership with the Polytechnic Management, describing the union as a bridge for dialogue, peace, and academic advancement.
