Federal University of Agriculture to Commence Operations in Bayelsa State

The newly established Federal University of Agriculture, located in Basambiri, Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, is poised to begin operations soon as renovation work nears completion. The institution, which represents the first major federal project in the oil-rich council, is expected to become a hub for agricultural education and research in the region.

This development was revealed during a recent visit by the university’s principal officers, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board, Senator John Brambaifa, and Vice Chancellor, Professor Reginald Keremah. The delegation met with Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, to discuss steps toward the institution's seamless commencement.

Following a closed-door meeting with Governor Diri, Professor Keremah expressed optimism about the institution’s take-off, noting that key issues, including the take-off site in Basambiri, were successfully resolved. He highlighted that the governor reaffirmed his administration’s full support for the university, underscoring its potential to drive agricultural innovation and economic growth in Bayelsa State.

"The governor's support is pivotal to the university's establishment, and we are excited about the progress made so far," Professor Keremah stated.

The university's Governing Council also convened its inaugural meeting, addressing the immediate challenges of setting up the institution. Key issues such as infrastructure, staffing, and community engagement were extensively discussed. Senator Brambaifa emphasized the council's commitment to ensuring a smooth and efficient launch of the institution.

“We are confident that with the support of all stakeholders, the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, will soon become a center of excellence in agricultural education,” Brambaifa affirmed.

During a site inspection of the university's take-off campus in Basambiri, the delegation was warmly welcomed by community leaders and elders. The Bassambiri community expressed their readiness to collaborate with the university’s leadership to guarantee its success.

Speaking on behalf of the community, a local chief assured the council of their unwavering support. "We are committed to seeing the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, thrive and will provide all necessary assistance to make this project a success."

The visit concluded with a tour of the ongoing renovation works at key structures on the proposed campus, as well as an inspection of the university's permanent site.
