In a momentous ceremony, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), offered invaluable guidance to the newly inducted student union leaders of the institution, urging them to prioritize consultation and consensus-building as they embark on their journey to provide quality leadership. The official induction took place on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

Professor Oladiji extended her warm congratulations to the newly elected union leaders while emphasizing the importance of advancing FUTA's interests in all their activities, programs, and policies. She underlined that leadership demands not only responsibility but also tenacity of purpose, consensus, and peace-building. She encouraged them to embody the values of the university, stating, "You are ambassadors of the University, and this should guide your programs, speeches, and actions at all times."

Furthermore, Professor Oladiji advised the new officers to work closely with their primary constituency, the students, if they aspire to excel. She stressed the importance of engaging in comprehensive discussions during meetings and avoiding the imposition of personal opinions on colleagues and subordinates. She lauded those who gracefully accepted the election results and encouraged them not to abandon their dreams and aspirations.

Professor Olarenwaju Oke, the Dean of the Students Affairs Unit, congratulated the newly elected student leaders and encouraged them to prepare for the significant responsibilities ahead. He expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the Students Electoral Commission and all those involved in the election process. Professor Oke commended the dedication of the previous executive team led by Asoore Jesunifemi Abiodun, also known as "Ten ten." He also expressed his appreciation to the University Management for creating an environment that ensured a free and fair election and a smooth transition of student union leadership.

Following the administration of the oath of office by the Speaker of the Students Representative Council, Right Hon. Femi Falana, President of FUTASU, Oluwasorimidayo Olayemi delivered his inaugural speech. He emphasized that his aspiration to become President of the Union was not a mere quest for a title but a result of a dream driven by hard work, strategy, and divine inspiration to contribute to the development of the Union and the University.

Olayemi urged his fellow executive officers to work collaboratively to enhance the Union's integrity and uniqueness for the benefit of all students. With the motto "Let’s Get It Right," he encouraged students to be patient as the newly inaugurated officers pursued their agenda.

Representing the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), Hon. (Mrs.) Olamide Falana, an alumna of the University and Special Adviser on Gender Matters, advised the newly elected officers to work with synergy, sincerity, and accountability. She stressed the importance of establishing a mechanism for checks and balances to monitor the conduct of officers and hold them accountable.

The Governor applauded the Vice Chancellor for her remarkable achievements during her tenure and reaffirmed the commitment of the Ondo State Government to partnering with FUTA to maintain the institution's esteemed status within the Nigerian University system.
