Final-Year Kogi Poly Student Dies Following Botched Abortion

A final-year student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Miss Dorcas Omotosho, has died following complications from an attempted abortion at a private clinic in Lokoja.

According to sources, the 26-year-old sought to terminate a six-month pregnancy at Al-Hassan Clinic and Maternity in the Sarkin Noma area of Lokoja, Kogi State.

Though the abortion procedure was reportedly carried out, medical personnel at the clinic were unable to stop severe post-procedure bleeding, resulting in her death. 

A police officer called to the scene recorded evidence before the deceased’s body was transferred to the mortuary at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja. The clinic’s owner has been arrested and is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lokoja pending further investigation.

Kogi State Polytechnic officials stated they were unaware of the incident, noting that students are currently on holiday. 

Public Relations Director Uredo Omale confirmed the school had not received any formal report. Efforts to reach the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye, were unsuccessful as his phone line was unreachable at the time this report was filed.
