Former Health Minister Advocates for Creation of Faculty of Pharmacy at EKSU, Chancellor Launches N1 Billion Innovation Fund
Former Health Minister advocates for the establishment of a Faculty of Pharmacy at Ekiti State University (EKSU), while Chancellor announces a N1 billion innovation fund for agricultural technology.
Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, the former Minister of Health and Social Science, has called for the establishment of a Faculty of Pharmacy at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti. Adelusi-Adeluyi made this plea after receiving an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during the university's 28th convocation ceremony. Expressing concern over the absence of a Pharmacy faculty, he pledged to engage with relevant stakeholders to facilitate its creation.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, the newly appointed university chancellor, announced the launch of a groundbreaking initiative—a N1 billion innovation fund aimed at bolstering agricultural technology within the university. Emphasizing the pivotal role of agriculture in Nigeria's economy, Olowolafe highlighted the fund's focus on supporting agro-tech companies founded by EKSU graduates and students. This initiative underscores agriculture's significance as a catalyst for innovation and economic prosperity in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.
During the convocation ceremony's grand finale, a total of 155 students from the College of Postgraduate Studies graduated. This cohort included 73 PhD students, 81 masters students, and one Postgraduate Diploma student, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.
The convergence of efforts by former Health Minister Adelusi-Adeluyi and Chancellor Olowolafe reflects a commitment to advancing education, innovation, and economic development within EKSU and the broader society. As EKSU continues to prioritize academic excellence and impactful initiatives, stakeholders anticipate further strides in promoting education, research, and entrepreneurship for the benefit of the university and the nation.
