Fountain University, Osogbo (FUO) has taken a bold step toward advancing scholarship and national development with the launch of its Institute for Peace, Security and Strategic Studies (IPSSS).

The new institute is designed to serve as a hub for world-class research, training, and policy engagement in peacebuilding and security management.

During a courtesy visit, the Vice Chancellor of FUO, Professor Ramota Olayinka Karim, FNIFST, FCOFP, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ensuring that the institute is equipped with the resources required for a successful take-off and sustainability.

The President of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Mr. Nathaniel Awuapila, commended FUO’s foresight in establishing the institute. He encouraged the university to collaborate closely with security agencies and stakeholders across Osogbo, while emphasizing the importance of objectivity and inclusivity in the institute’s operations, regardless of FUO’s faith-based identity.

In a closed curriculum development session that followed the courtesy call, Professor Isaac Olawale Albert of the University of Ibadan’s Institute of Security Studies delivered a keynote address. He applauded FUO’s initiative, stressing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in peace and security scholarship, noting that synergies across various fields of study are vital to the institute’s long-term success.

With this milestone, FUO is positioning the IPSSS as a centre of excellence that will contribute significantly to peacebuilding, security, and strategic studies at both national and regional levels, further reinforcing its role as a forward-looking institution addressing today’s and tomorrow’s complex challenges.
