FUE Zaria Elevates Academic Excellence: Governing Council Approves Promotion of 43 Professors and 15 Readers
The Governing Council of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, has announced a significant boost to its academic workforce following the approval of the promotion of 58 senior academics.
In a statement released on April 14, 2026, by Sani Lawal Maqarphy, Media Aide to the Vice-Chancellor, it was confirmed that 43 lecturers have been elevated to the prestigious rank of Professor, while 15 others have been promoted to the rank of Reader.
The decision was reached during the Council's 2026 First Quarter Meeting held on April 13, presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Amb. Baba Ahmad Jidda (OFR).

The newly promoted Professors span a wide array of disciplines, reflecting the institution’s diverse research interests. Notable appointments include Dr. (Mrs.) Balogun Ibiloye (Fisheries), Dr. Adewale Hakeem Suleiman (Computer Science), Dr. (Mrs.) Sani Amina (Entrepreneurship), and Dr. Peter Matemilola A. (Yoruba). The promotions also heavily featured experts in Science Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Geography.
Similarly, the 15 new Readers include specialists such as Dr. Bayero Abubakar (Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology) and Dr. (Miss) Iember Amua (Exercise and Sports Science), further strengthening the university's middle-to-senior academic leadership.
The Governing Council extended its congratulations to the promotees, urging them to remain dedicated to their research and continue providing exemplary service to both the university and the broader global community.
This mass promotion is viewed as a strategic move by FUE Zaria to solidify its standing as a premier institution for teacher education and specialized academic research in Nigeria.
