FUGA VC Prof. Geidam Visits YSU; Partners with Prof. Tahir to Advance Higher Education in Yobe State

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gashua, Prof. Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to his counterpart at Yobe State University, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Tahir, with a view to strengthening institutional collaboration and consolidating existing academic ties.

The visit, which took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s office in Damaturu, highlighted the commitment of both institutions to deepen cooperation in research, academic development, staff exchange and community service.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Geidam said he was at YSU not only to formally congratulate Prof. Tahir on his well-deserved appointment but also to seek stronger collaboration between the two universities. He described the appointment of the YSU Vice-Chancellor as commendable, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity to reposition the institution for greater achievements.

“As sister institutions in Yobe State, it is important that we cement and sustain our working relationship for the advancement of higher education in the state and the region at large,” he said.

Prof. Geidam noted that inter-university collaboration remains vital in addressing common academic and developmental challenges, particularly in the North-East.

In his remarks, Prof. Tahir welcomed his counterpart and described him as a team player and hardworking academic administrator.

He stressed that Prof. Geidam had proven his competence during his service at the University of Maiduguri, where he served as Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Director, Centre for Distance Learning, and as a Council Member.

“Prof. Geidam has consistently demonstrated dedication and excellence in leadership. His experience and commitment will undoubtedly strengthen Federal University Gashua,” Prof. Tahir said.

He assured the visiting Vice-Chancellor of YSU’s readiness to collaborate in areas of mutual interest, including joint research, academic exchange programmes and capacity building initiatives.

Both Vice-Chancellors expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would further enhance academic growth and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Yobe State and the nation at large.
