The Federal University of Health Science, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI) has celebrated a milestone with the admission of 673 new students during its second matriculation ceremony, held at the multipurpose hall in Ogbagbara, Ila-Orangun. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Akeem Olawale Lasisi, urged the new students to be diligent and dedicated in their studies to achieve their goals and honor the efforts of their parents.

During his address, Professor Lasisi highlighted the significance of the event, noting that this second matriculation marks another landmark in the university's history. Out of the 2,069 applicants, only 673 were admitted into the university's 13 programs, reflecting the competitive nature of the admissions process.

A notable highlight of this year's matriculation is the high number of female students, with 429 women making up 63.7% of the new admissions. Professor Lasisi praised this development, emphasizing the university's commitment to promoting girl-child education and female leadership from its inception.

He advised the students to be aware of their crucial role in advancing science and humanity, stressing the importance of maintaining good character. The university, he said, has zero tolerance for misconduct and aims to produce graduates who are exemplary both in character and learning.

Professor Lasisi also outlined the university's recent infrastructural achievements, including the construction of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, the University Health Centre, the Science Laboratory Building, and the University Library, among others.

In a significant development, the university installed its first chancellor, HRM Alhaji Ibrahim Ibn Umar El-Kanemi, the Sheu of Dikwa. Professor Lasisi commended the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the timely appointment. He expressed confidence that Alhaji El-Kanemi's experience and support would help propel FUHSI to international prominence.
