FULafia Alumni Association holds special prayers for varsity
The Alumni Association of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has organised a special prayer session for the peace, security and progress of the University.
To mark the event, the association held Juma'at and Inter-Denominational Church
prayer sessions at Nasarawa State Secretariat Jumma'at Mosque, Lafia, and Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC Gloryland), Lafia, on Friday, December 28, and Sunday, December 31, 2023,
respectively.
Speaking on the purpose of the special prayers for the University, the National President of the Federal University of Lafia Alumni Association, Malam Abdulganiyu Sabo, regretted that many communities in Nigeria were confronted with socio-economic and security challenges, noting that FULafia, being a part of these communities, was not exempted from the challenges.
While appreciating the Management of the university for its support to the association, Sabo thanked Christian and Muslims leaders and associations for supporting the special prayers, believing that with continued prayers, the challenges facing the country would soon come to an end.
Sabo assured the Management of FULafia that the alumni association would continue to work closely with it to ensure steady development of the institution.
Reacting to the development, the FULafia Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, commended the leadership of the alumni association for organising the prayer sessions, saying that “prayers for the country and the University cannot be ignored.”
Represented by the institution's Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Partnerships, Prof. Samaila Usman Dakyes, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs,
Prof. Aleruchi Chuku at the Juma'at prayer and interdenominational church service respectively, the vice-chancellor said the Management of the University was doing everything within its power continue to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning, calling on all stakeholders to collaboration with the University to address the challenges confronting it.
Abdul Rahman appreciated Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of Nasarawa State, the state’s traditional council and security agencies for their interest, support, partnership and commitment to the peace and development of the University.
Also speaking, the Director of Linkages and Advancement of the Federal University of Lafia, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Dahiru, said the prayer events were timely considering the social, economic and security issues facing the country.
He commended the alumni association for its foresight to organise the event, assuring that the University’s Management would continue to work hard to improve the welfare of staff and students.
Others who attended the Special Juma'at Prayer session included the representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA), Lafia Students Association (LASA) and some prominent clerics.
