FULafia VC Highlights Rice Cultivation as Key to Nigeria's Food Security

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has emphasized the critical role of rice cultivation in achieving food security in Nigeria. He made this statement during a capacity-building event on sustainable rice farming, organized by the university's Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology in collaboration with the AfricaRice Centre.
Prof. Abdul Rahman stressed the importance of sharing knowledge among rice farmers, noting that the significance of rice production in Nigeria cannot be underestimated. He encouraged agricultural experts and resource persons to use simple language to ensure effective communication with farmers.
During the event, Mr. Thomas Awio, the lead resource person from the AfricaRice Centre, introduced "RiceAdvice Lite," a new technology designed to transform food production systems. He expressed gratitude to FULafia's management for providing a platform to educate farmers on the latest trends in rice cultivation.
The event also featured a lecture by Mr. Jonathan Oklo, who explained that RiceAdvice Lite offers recommendations on fertilization and management practices for rice cultivation and other rotational crops.
