FULafia VC Stresses Importance of Science for Development
Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), has emphasized the crucial role of science in national development, particularly in agriculture and food security.

Speaking at the 7th Annual National Conference of the School of Applied Sciences, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Nasarawa State, Abdul Rahman highlighted the significance of scientific knowledge in solving practical problems and making informed decisions.

He noted that technological advancements in agriculture, such as the use of robots, sensors, and genetically modified crops, have made agricultural business more profitable, efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly.
Abdul Rahman defined food security as "when all people, at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life."
He emphasized the need for agricultural policies to focus on promoting science and technology to improve efficiency and productivity in the agricultural sector.
Other speakers, including Dr. Yahaya Baba Usman, Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State, and Dr. Samuel James Obarakpo, Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, also stressed the importance of addressing food insecurity and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Emir of Nasarawa, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril, academicians, and students.
