"FULOKOJA is Part of Your DNA; Support It," Vice-Chancellor Charges Alumni
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has called on alumni of the institution to embrace their responsibility as critical stakeholders in the university's development, stressing that their relationship with their alma mater transcends graduation and should be sustained through active support and engagement.
Professor Ibileye made the call while receiving a delegation of the Federal University Lokoja Alumni Association, Lagos State Chapter, led by its President, Comrade Emmanuel Oluwatoyin Daniel, at Watercress Hotel, Lagos, on June 2, 2026.
Addressing the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor underscored the invaluable role alumni play in shaping the future of the university, noting that their contributions should extend beyond financial donations.

"The power of your connections and networks is what we need to strengthen development in Federal University Lokoja, not just your financial contributions. Every one of you is important to this institution, and you cannot completely sever yourself from us. Your partnership with FUL will span generations because the university is part of your DNA. Your story cannot be complete without it being mentioned. Therefore, support it," Professor Ibileye stated.
He explained that meaningful support could come through mentorship programmes, infrastructure development, strategic partnerships, professional networks, and other initiatives capable of enhancing the university's visibility, reputation, and competitiveness within the global academic community.
The Vice-Chancellor further urged the alumni to demonstrate greater commitment toward protecting and promoting the image of the institution, emphasizing that the strength of the university's legacy depends significantly on the dedication of its graduates.
Earlier, the President of the Lagos Chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Oluwatoyin Daniel, a graduate of the Department of Geology, congratulated Professor Ibileye on his appointment as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university and commended the remarkable strides recorded under his leadership within a relatively short period.
He highlighted the chapter's commitment to fostering unity among members through workshops, conferences, networking programmes, and support initiatives aimed at enhancing members' professional and social development.
According to him, the chapter currently has over 200 members on its WhatsApp platform and is actively working to identify and integrate more graduates, particularly recent alumni transitioning into the broader society.
Comrade Emmanuel disclosed that the chapter formally commenced operations in 2020 and has since pursued programmes designed to strengthen alumni cohesion while exploring sustainable ways of giving back to the institution. He revealed plans to host an Alumni Summit and appealed to the university management to create more opportunities for alumni participation in institutional affairs.
He also drew attention to the achievements of several members of the association, including individuals who have secured political party nominations to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections.
Responding to concerns raised by the delegation regarding the poor road network along the Felele axis, Professor Ibileye assured the alumni that significant interventions were underway and expressed optimism that tangible improvements would become increasingly visible in the coming weeks and months.
