Federal University Lokoja (FULOKOJA) has received commendable news as the National Universities Commission (NUC) accredited 34 out of 42 academic programs presented for review. This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, during the university's 8th Convocation Ceremony held on October 26, 2024.  

Professor Akinwumi expressed pride in this achievement, noting that it reflects the university's unwavering commitment to academic excellence. He highlighted the approval of new programs including LL.B. Law, Pharm. D. (Doctor of Pharmacy), B.Agric, B.MLS (Medical Laboratory Science), and B.Ed. Educational Management and Planning. Admissions for these programs are currently ongoing for the 2024/2025 academic session, signifying the university's dedication to expanding educational opportunities.

In addition to these new programs, the Vice-Chancellor mentioned the NUC's approval of eight full-time programs to be run in affiliation with the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State. These include degrees in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Public Administration, Banking and Finance, Mass Communication, Computer Science, and Statistics. Furthermore, FUL is collaborating with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies in Abuja to offer postgraduate studies, enhancing its academic offerings.  

Looking ahead, the Vice-Chancellor indicated that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) is scheduled for a second accreditation visit in the first week of November 2024, which is crucial for the College of Health Sciences. The university is also preparing for a follow-up accreditation visit from the NUC to ensure the quality of its programs.

This academic year, over 17,000 candidates chose FUL as their first choice, with more than 11,000 scoring 160 and above in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The university plans to admit approximately 9,000 students for the upcoming session, which is set to commence on November 10, 2024.  

In total, 2,196 students graduated from the institution during the convocation ceremony, marking another milestone in FUL's academic journey.
