The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has appointed Prof. Sakiru Akinbode as Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS).

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has appointed Prof. Sakiru Akinbode as Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS).

The appointment, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, was announced in a statement issued by the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, who said it was based on Prof. Akinbode’s demonstrated academic leadership and capacity to contribute to the university’s growth and development.

An appointment letter signed by the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi, stated that the tenure is for a period of three years, effective from January 2, 2026, to January 1, 2029.

Prof. Akinbode is a Development Economist in the Department of Economics and currently serves as Deputy Dean of the College of Entrepreneurial and Development Studies (COLENDS). He holds B.Agric. and M.Agric. degrees, as well as a PhD in Agricultural Economics from FUNAAB. He also earned MSc and PhD degrees in Economics from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

He has participated in numerous local and international conferences and workshops, where he has presented scholarly research, and is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Economic Society, the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists, and the International Society for Development and Sustainability, Japan.

Beyond academia, Prof. Akinbode has served as a consultant to international organisations, government ministries, departments and agencies, and private sector institutions, with expertise spanning policy analysis, social and environmental impact assessments, business feasibility studies, and field surveys.

Within FUNAAB, he has held several leadership and service positions, including Head of the Department of Economics (2018–2020), Financial Secretary of ASUU-UNAAB (2014–2018), and Internal Auditor (2018–2021).

The university expressed confidence that Prof. Akinbode’s experience and academic insight would further strengthen entrepreneurial training, innovation, and skills development through the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies.
