FUOYE Student Shines at World Cassava Day 2025
Dibie Charles Oriekose, a 500-level student of Animal Production and Health at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has emerged as one of the top 10 finalists at the World Cassava Day 2025 celebration held at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock.
The event, themed "Driving Industrialization, Food Security, and Export," brought together policymakers, international partners, and private sector leaders to promote cassava as a strategic crop for Nigeria's economic growth.
Oriekose's pioneering idea, the Cassava Bio Seed Hub, impressed the expert panel with its practical approach and alignment with national agricultural priorities. The innovation focuses on producing and distributing clean, disease-free cassava stems to Nigerian farmers, addressing the root causes of low yield and disease susceptibility in cassava production.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, expressed immense pride in Oriekose's achievement, describing it as a reflection of the university's dedication to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving among its students. Oriekose's achievement is a testament to the university's commitment to producing graduates who create solutions and drive impact.
The event reinforced Nigeria's commitment to leveraging cassava for food security, economic diversification, and export expansion. With young minds like Oriekose championing the next wave of agricultural transformation, the future of Nigeria's cassava industry looks promising.
