Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, the newly inaugurated fifth Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), officially assumed office on 11 February 2026, unveiling a bold reform agenda aimed at transforming the university into a globally competitive, research-driven institution.
At his inauguration ceremony, Professor Ogunwole outlined a covenant with the university anchored on cultural transformation, academic repositioning, and a 25-year strategic development framework (2026–2050) designed to ensure sustainability, technological integration, and global visibility. The plan is structured into five-year cycles to guide governance, policy implementation, and risk management.
Paying tribute to his predecessors, he acknowledged the contributions of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina and former Vice-Chancellors Professors Kayode Soremekun, Isaac Uzoma Asuzu, and Ositadimma Chinedu Nebo, recognizing their foundational role in FUOYE’s growth.
Professor Ogunwole emphasized that since its establishment in 2011, FUOYE has made notable strides in entrepreneurial education, technology adoption, and impactful research. However, he stressed that indiscipline, declining civility, and disregard for due process have sometimes overshadowed these achievements and vowed that such behaviors would no longer be tolerated.
He identified three major reform priorities:
- Transforming institutional culture – promoting accountability, discipline, teamwork, and innovation across the university community.
- Restructuring academic programmes – redesigning curricula and delivery to produce well-rounded, globally competitive graduates.
- Redesigning the university’s operational model – embracing digitalisation and implementing a more agile, collegiate administrative system.
Professor Ogunwole’s vision positions FUOYE at a critical juncture, combining cultural renewal with structural and technological reforms to achieve world-class research university status.
The Vice-Chancellor’s administration marks a decisive shift toward governance excellence, institutional sustainability, and a culture of performance, accountability, and innovation at FUOYE.
