FUT Minna Announces Plans for Medical School and Expands Academic Programs
The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna) has announced plans to establish a medical school in partnership with the Federal Medical Center, Bida, and has received approval for seven new programs, including public health and cybersecurity.
The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna) is set to open a medical school to meet the increasing demand for healthcare professionals in Nigeria. This announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Santuraki, during a visit by the university's governing council to the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago. The planned medical school will partner with the Federal Medical Center in Bida as its teaching hospital, providing hands-on training for students.
Dr. Santuraki highlighted that FUT Minna has consistently ranked among Nigeria's top ten universities, outperforming some older institutions in Times Higher Education rankings. "Our graduates in technology fields are highly sought after," he noted, reflecting the university's strong reputation.
In addition to the medical school, FUT Minna has received approval to introduce seven new programs, including public health, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and forensic science, further broadening its academic offerings.
Governor Mohammed Bago expressed support for the initiative, emphasizing the need for locally trained medical professionals to ensure a steady healthcare workforce in Niger State. He also announced a donation of N100 million to FUT Minna to assist with the construction of new student hostels. The governor encouraged FUT Minna to collaborate with other institutions on research and development projects and pledged continued support for educational growth across the state.
