Born in Ora-Igbomina, Osun State, in March 1945, Professor Laseinde’s journey to academic prominence began as the son of a primary school teacher and a trader. His dedication and professional excellence saw him rise to become a leading figure in animal production and health in Nigeria, making significant contributions to research and literature in the field.
Professor Laseinde joined FUTA in January 1984 as a Senior Lecturer, shortly after the institution's establishment in 1981. He was instrumental in shaping the Department of Animal Production and Health, helping develop its curriculum and establishing the Teaching and Research Farm's laboratories and livestock section. His efforts paved the way for the graduation of the department's first set of students, cementing his legacy as a foundational figure in the university’s growth.
Renowned for his pioneering work, Professor Laseinde introduced the innovative ‘Hatchery Technology’ course, a rare specialization in poultry farming, further enhancing FUTA's reputation in agricultural education. His textbook, Hatchery Technology for Poultry Eggs (2011, with a second edition in 2014), remains a vital resource for students and practitioners. He also authored other notable works, including Poultry Ventures and Terminologies in Poultry Production, which have contributed significantly to Nigeria's poultry farming practices.
Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Laseinde served as the pioneer Chaplain of FUTA's Protestant Chapel, the Chapel of Faith, from 1985 to 2003, and was later appointed Chaplain Emeritus. His contributions to the spiritual growth of the university were detailed in his book, In the Beginning: Historical Highlights and Papers – The Chapel of Faith, The Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The FUTA community celebrates Professor Laseinde’s appointment as Professor Emeritus, honoring a career marked by groundbreaking achievements, mentorship, and community service. His influence is expected to continue shaping the institution for years to come.
