FUTA VC Encourages Students to Drive Research and Innovation as 5,986 Matriculate

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, urged newly admitted students to engage in research and innovation during the Combined Matriculation ceremony for over 5,986 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has urged newly admitted students to leverage their time at the university to contribute to research and development efforts aimed at addressing societal challenges. This charge was given during the Combined Matriculation ceremony held on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, for over 5,986 undergraduate and postgraduate students admitted into various programs for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Professor Oladiji emphasized the importance of students' involvement in research, innovation, and the development of new products and applications across various fields, including digital technologies. She highlighted the potential impact of high-quality research on global university rankings and urged students to align with FUTA's vision of becoming a world-class University of Technology and a Center of Excellence in training, research, and service delivery.

Underlining FUTA's reputation as a research-intensive institution with numerous accolades, Professor Oladiji called upon the new students to actively contribute to the university's advancement and global standing. She stressed the importance of upholding FUTA's core values of integrity, creativity, accountability, rationality, and excellence throughout their academic journey.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor cautioned students against engaging in behaviors that could tarnish the university's image, including cyber-crimes and examination malpractices. She reiterated FUTA's zero-tolerance policy towards acts detrimental to campus peace and academic integrity, warning of strict penalties for offenders.

Professor Oladiji also emphasized the significance of character alongside academic brilliance, advising students to embrace hard work, moderation, and discipline to achieve academic excellence. She encouraged students to familiarize themselves with the Counseling Unit of the Students' Affairs Division for guidance and support in navigating their academic pursuits.

The Matriculation ceremony, held in the Main Auditorium of the University, saw the formal enrollment of the new students with the Matriculation Oath administered by the Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye. The event was attended by principal officers of the university, deans of schools, school officers, and parents of the matriculating students, underscoring the importance of the occasion in the academic calendar of FUTA.
