FUTH CMD Spearheads Data Science Revolution: First Cohort Completes Intensive 4-Month Training
In a strategic move to digitise healthcare delivery and administrative efficiency, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Lafia, Dr. Ikrama Hassan, has successfully concluded the first phase of an intensive capacity-building programme in Data Science.
The four-month virtual training, which held thrice weekly, was designed to create a robust ecosystem of professionals capable of leveraging data-driven insights for healthcare management.
The initiative fostered a unique synergy between key health and academic institutions in the region. Participants were drawn from:

Nasarawa State Ministry of Health
Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NSPHCDA)
The first group of trainees officially completed the programme yesterday, February 21, 2026. The finale featured comprehensive project presentations where staff demonstrated their ability to apply data science methodologies to real-world medical and administrative challenges.
By equipping staff with these high-level technical skills, Dr. Ikrama Hassan’s administration aims to position FUTH Lafia as a leader in modern medical informatics. The training is expected to improve patient outcome tracking, resource allocation, and policy formulation across the state’s healthcare landscape.
