FUTIA Congratulates Director of Physical Planning on Induction as Fellow of NIA

Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has congratulated its Acting Director of the Directorate of Physical Planning, Arc. Abimbola Oke, on his induction as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA).

Federal University of Technology Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State, has congratulated its Acting Director of the Directorate of Physical Planning, Arc. Abimbola Oke, on his induction as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA).

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Leo Daniel, extended the felicitation on behalf of the University’s management, staff, and students.

In his goodwill message, Professor Daniel described the Fellowship as a well-deserved recognition of Arc. Oke’s dedication to professional practice both within and outside the University and his significant contributions to the advancement of architecture in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, and beyond. He expressed optimism that this induction would further enhance the Director’s resourcefulness, positively impacting the Directorate and the quality of service delivery at FUTIA.

Arc. Abimbola Oke is an alumnus of the University of Jos, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Architecture in 1992 and 1995, respectively. He also holds an M.Sc. in Construction Management and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Uyo and has authored multiple academic publications.

His professional service includes two terms as Secretary (2007–2012) and two terms as Chairman (2016–2020) of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Akwa Ibom State Chapter. He joined the University of Uyo as academic staff in July 2000 before assuming his current role at FUTIA in 2023. Over a career spanning about 30 years, Arc. Oke has been actively involved in architectural design, construction, and training of students.

The induction ceremony formed part of the ongoing 65th Annual General Meeting, Conference, and Exhibition of the NIA, themed “Architectural Excellence for Economic Resilience,” held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, served as Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker.

The event, which commenced on Monday, 24th November 2025, is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, 29th November 2025, with a Gala Dinner, awards presentation, conference communique, and inauguration of the 31st President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, alongside swearing-in of elected officers for 2025–2027.
