Gloria Stowers, a determined 70-year-old, has fulfilled her lifelong dream of earning a bachelor’s degree, marking the culmination of her academic journey at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, United States.
Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Art education, Gloria shared with Fox News Atlanta that her pursuit of education aimed to break the cycle of generational lack of education in her family. Expressing the transformative power of education, she emphasized the doors it opens and the opportunities it provides in life.
Raised in a family where her parents had only completed elementary school, Gloria embarked on her mission to attain a degree while being a single mother to her three children, Dijon, Sasha, and Maya. Her daughter, Maya, acknowledged the uniqueness of her mother's journey, praising Gloria's resilience and determination in raising three children on her own.
Gloria commenced her college journey six years ago, waiting until her children were grown and she was financially stable to fulfill her dream of obtaining a degree. Encouraging others to pursue their aspirations, she emphasized the importance of taking action and making the most of each day.
Reflecting on her journey, Gloria stated, "I wouldn’t say the key word is wait. I would say, no matter what, it is that you have a desire for, put the action into it. And time is of the essence, so every day utilize the time that is given to you." She added that her achievement is just the beginning, expressing plans to continue her journey and teach art to children.
