Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has disclosed that the Katsina State Government has invested more than N120 billion in the education sector and constructed 170 junior secondary schools across the state within the last three years, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving access to quality education and strengthening human capital development.

The governor made the revelation as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration, highlighting achievements recorded under the government's "Building Your Future" development agenda.

According to a report issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, education remains one of the most prioritised sectors under the Radda administration, attracting substantial investments aimed at improving learning outcomes and expanding educational opportunities for young people across Katsina State.

The report noted that the 170 newly constructed junior secondary schools were strategically located in communities that previously lacked such facilities, bringing post-primary education closer to thousands of children, particularly those in underserved rural areas.

In addition to the new schools, the state government has undertaken extensive rehabilitation and renovation projects to improve learning environments. The administration rehabilitated 300 schools and renovated 150 primary schools across various parts of the state.

Governor Radda explained that the interventions were designed not only to improve infrastructure but also to bridge educational disparities between urban and rural communities.

“We constructed 170 junior secondary schools in communities that previously had none. We rehabilitated 300 schools and renovated 150 primary schools. We established ICT and Computer-Based Test centres in both rural and urban communities because a child in the village deserves the same digital access as a child in the city,” the governor said.

As part of efforts to prepare students for the demands of a technology-driven world, the administration established model and smart secondary schools in Radda, Jikamshi, and Dumurkul, representing the three senatorial districts of the state.

The smart schools are equipped with modern facilities, including robotics laboratories, artificial intelligence centres, internet-enabled learning systems, and reliable electricity supply to support digital learning and innovation.

According to the governor, the initiative is intended to expose students to emerging technologies and equip them with skills needed to compete in an increasingly digital global economy.

Education stakeholders have described the development as a significant step toward modernising Katsina State’s education system and preparing learners for future opportunities in science, technology, and innovation.

Beyond infrastructure, the report revealed that the government has continued to invest in human capital development through foreign scholarship programmes, increased student allowances, and the timely payment of bursaries to eligible beneficiaries.

The administration has also prioritised teachers’ welfare through regular salary payments and professional development programmes designed to enhance teaching quality and classroom effectiveness.

Governor Radda maintained that education remains one of the most strategic investments for sustainable development, stressing that the benefits of current interventions would have a lasting impact on future generations.

“Education is one of the cardinal areas where we have invested the most and where we believe our impact will last the longest,” he stated.

With over N120 billion committed to school infrastructure, digital learning facilities, student support initiatives, and teacher development, the Katsina State Government says its education reforms are laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth and a brighter future for the state's young population.
