Hamburg Professor Explores Kanuri Heritage in Maiduguri

Professor Dmitry Bondarev of the University of Hamburg has visited Kashim Ibrahim University's Centre for Kanuri Ajami and Quranic Studies to explore collaboration opportunities. Bondarev, who heads the Ajami Lab in Hamburg, is researching Islamic manuscripts and African languages written in Arabic script (Ajami), with a focus on Kanuri and Old Kanembu annotations in Quranic manuscripts.

The visit aims to protect written artifacts, promote research, and preserve Kanuri Ajami heritage. Centre Director Professor Maimadu Barma Mutai welcomed Bondarev, highlighting the Centre's focus on Qur'anic Sciences and Kanuri manuscripts. The university's Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shuaibu Garba Ngulde, reaffirmed support for the Centre's development .
