HUNGER PROTEST: UNICAL Declares 2-Days Lecture Free Day Ahead of the Planned Nationwide Protest

In the wake of the planned nationwide protest, the Management of the University of Calabar has stepped up institutional measures by declaring the 1st and 2nd of August, 2024 as both lecture and examination-free days.
This decision according to the Registrar of the University of Calabar, Mr Gabriel Egbe was reached at an interactive meeting held between Management, Critical Stakeholders and Student Leaders held at the Council Chamber of the University.
Other decisions reached at the meeting geared towards institutional safety measures include the closure of all entry points except the main gate leading to the institution, restriction of movement on campus on the first two days of the planned protest and compulsory wearing of ID cards for easy identification.

The release also stated that the Medical Centre would remain open and all health workers and other essential Service Providers would be on duty throughout the protest.
Students in the release are advised not to participate in the protest or allow themselves to be used to foment trouble on campus but to go about their normal academic activities.

Management assured all Staff and Students of adequate measures put in place to ensure peaceful and hitch-free academic session.
