The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has reassured that vibrant teamwork with the university’s alumni association would expand the limits of the institution, Myschoolnews gathered.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, gave the reassurance at Omoku, the country home of the new chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the association, Bro. Felix Obuah, on Thursday, October 19.

Represented by a member of the BoT and former Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Joseph Kinanee, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the contributions of Bro. Obuah to the association's advancement and was optimistic that the university would gain from his philanthropy and investment in human capital development.

Prof. Onuchuku noted that Bro. Obuah is not just a mentor and a colossus in the political space in Rivers State, but also a strong contributor to its economic prosperity through his numerous business inventiveness in sports, agriculture, tourism and hospitality, describing him as a worthy ambassador of his alma mater.

Responding, Bro. Obuah thanked the Vice-Chancellor for approving the visit to his country home and appreciated the association for finding him worthy of the office.

The former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State who admitted that education is a better legacy one could leave behind, appealed to lecturers at the university to donate copies of their books and other educational and enlightening materials to his library and museum project.

“Building is temporary, but education and human capital development is a lasting legacy”, Obuah emphasised.

He expressed happiness for the education he received at the university when it was a College of Education, admitting that it contributed immensely to his success in politics and business. He added that he was delighted to be an alumnus of the institution.

Obuah, a former chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area, assured that he was ready to contribute to the university's progress and pledged a five million naira donation to the alumni association.

Earlier, the National President of the association, Dr Jerome Wosu, commended the Acting Vice-Chancellor for giving the body “the template and the measure of support to operate”, while also commending Bro. Obuah for “accepting to serve his alma mater as a Board of Trustees chairman”.

Dr Wosu commended the members for their courage and patience as he appealed for support towards completing the construction of the secretariat. The new BoT will be in office for five years.

In the same vein, the National Public Relations Officer, Dr (Mrs) Josephine Kinanee, extolled the virtues of the BoT chairman and his stable backing to the body.

She thanked the Vice-Chancellor for giving the association the enabling environment to thrive and applauded members for their unwavering dedication to repositioning the fortunes of their alma mater.
