IBBU Secures Fresh Global Grant to Enhance STEM Education
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBU), has secured a new international grant to further consolidate its leadership role in the Connected Learning for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CL4STEM) project.
The project, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, aims to build the capacity of STEM teachers and promote inclusive classroom practices.
- Successfully built the capacity of STEM teachers in Nigeria, Tanzania, Bhutan, and India.
- Introduced inclusive classroom practices and strengthened collaboration among higher education institutions.
- Trained teachers in Niger, Kaduna, and Kano States, as well as in-service teachers across other locations.
- The new grant will enable IBBU to consolidate its efforts by mainstreaming CL4STEM pedagogy, curriculum content, and digital teaching skills into teacher education programs.
- The project will also strengthen collaboration with the Niger State Teachers' Professional Development Institute to train master trainers and integrate digital learning into classroom practice.
- Introduction of "communities of practice" to mentor pre-service teachers virtually while on teaching practice.
- Continuous feedback, lesson plan development, and real-time support from university educators.
- The university's management has pledged continued support for the project, recognizing its potential to drive educational innovation and improve STEM education in Nigeria.
