Imo State Police Arrest Eight in Arson Attack on National Open University Study Centre

The Imo State Police Command has arrested eight suspects linked to the arson attack on the National Open University study centre in Eze Oke Nsu, Ehime Mbano Council Area, which occurred last Tuesday. The Imo State Police Command announced on Wednesday that eight suspects have been apprehended in connection with the recent arson attack on the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre located in Eze Oke Nsu, Ehime Mbano Council Area. The incident occurred last Tuesday amidst growing tensions in the community fueled by rumors that the facility would be converted into a shelter for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Police Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye confirmed the arrests during a press briefing, stating, “I am pleased to announce that over eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the arson incidents in Ehime Mbano. Investigations are ongoing, and more details will be communicated in due course.”

Local leaders have expressed increasing concern over the safety of residents following the attack. An anonymous community leader emphasized the need for heightened security measures, advocating for the establishment of security checkpoints along key routes leading to the Ehime Mbano area. “People in my community have not slept since Tuesday night. We are afraid. This kind of thing we must take it seriously,” the leader stated.

Another community figure, an immediate past President General, called for collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups to enhance safety in Nsu and the surrounding areas. “All of us must be vigilant and report suspicious activities because now that they have started, they must be stopped for the good of our community,” he urged.
