Imo State University, Owerri, is celebrating the launch of significant new projects by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), including a modern sporting pavilion and staff quarters. Federal Commissioner Hon. Dr. Kyrian Uchegbu led the flag-off ceremony, promising completion within a year.

Imo State University, Owerri, was abuzz with excitement on Thursday as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) announced major developments for the institution. The celebration came as Federal Commissioner Hon. Dr. Kyrian Uchegbu, alongside NDDC staff and aides, arrived to officially launch the construction of a state-of-the-art sporting and recreational pavilion and new staff quarters.

The highly anticipated projects, designed to address long-standing deficiencies in sporting facilities and staff accommodation, were flagged off with much fanfare. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from students and staff, eager for the improvements.

What added to the jubilation was Hon. Uchegbu’s commitment to expedite the projects. He directed the contractors, WisGold Industries Ltd and Wiskamsi West Africa Ltd, to complete the construction within a year. This swift timeline underscores the importance placed on these developments and the drive to enhance the university’s infrastructure.

Hon. Uchegbu highlighted that Imo State was selected as one of only three Niger Delta states to receive such significant investments. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze, expressed profound gratitude for Uchegbu’s continued support, which has previously included projects like student hostels, road improvements, and solar street lights.
