Speaking during the university’s 564th Inaugural Lecture, titled "Dealing with Rebellion in the Commonwealth of Cells with Guided Missiles: That the Obedient May Live," Professor Adenipekun underscored the emergence of innovative therapies and technologies aimed at improving patient outcomes.

Delivering the lecture on behalf of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Professor Adenipekun highlighted the increasing availability of cutting-edge treatments such as ablative therapies, radio-frequency ablation, microwave ablation, and High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). However, the professor noted that the high cost of some targeted therapies remains a significant barrier for many patients. He commended the federal government for initiatives such as the Cancer Health Fund and the Cancer Access Programme, which have enabled some patients to access care at reduced costs. He called for increased funding and support for the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment to ensure continued progress.

In his recommendations, Professor Adenipekun urged the Federal Ministry of Health to improve diagnostic facilities, including equipping hospitals with advanced laboratories and radiology services to reduce delays in diagnosis. He also advocated for cancer care to be incorporated into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ease the financial burden on families affected by the disease.
