In a remarkable display of determination and resilience, Sanni Joy Omowunmi, a young lady who battled sickle cell disease throughout her university journey, has defied the odds to earn a first-class honors degree in Cell Biology and Genetics from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.

Joy shared her inspiring journey on Twitter, recounting how she faced a Sickle Cell complication, Avascular Necrosis of the hipbone, when she first gained admission. Despite being advised that she would require hip replacement surgery on both hips to walk again, Joy navigated her academic challenges with a walking frame.
