The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed the findings of its investigation into the alleged denial of admission to 2,000 candidates by the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Previously, reports had emerged suggesting that UNILAG was denying admission to some applicants due to JAMB's failure to upload their WAEC results onto the portal.

In response to this, JAMB pledged to investigate the matter and ensure that eligible candidates who had timely uploaded their results would not be unjustly denied admission.

It was noted that UNILAG had initially set August 13, 2023, as the deadline for uploading O'level results to the JAMB portal to consider eligible candidates. However, UNILAG extended the deadline to August 17, 2023, to accommodate candidates who may have been affected by any delays.

The report confirmed that some candidates had claimed to have uploaded their O'level results before the cutoff date but were still denied admission. Some used the ticketing platform provided, while others lodged complaints directly with the university.

After a thorough review, JAMB found that some of the candidates' claims were valid, as all transactions with the board are timestamped and trackable.

It emphasized that candidates who uploaded their O'level results after the August 13, 2023, cutoff date would not be considered for admission, as this was one of UNILAG's admission criteria. Additionally, UNILAG's requirement specified that the necessary O'level qualification must be obtained in one sitting.

JAMB assured all stakeholders of its commitment to fairness and equity, pledging to continue its efforts to enhance the national admission process.
