In a significant stride towards academic excellence, Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), has regained its Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre status for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations. The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, during the 268th Regular meeting of the University Senate.

The restoration of ABSU's CBT Centre status underscores the commitment of Professor Ogbulu's administration to uphold the highest standards in education. With plans to enhance the E-Library infrastructure by adding more computers, CCTV cameras, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply, ABSU aims to become a premier CBT Centre in the South East for UTME and other examinations.

Professor Ogbulu attributed the approval for the restoration of the CBT Centre to the University's consistent adherence to JAMB rules and regulations in admissions over the years. This recognition follows ABSU's receipt of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award of N10 million in the 2020/2021 admission year, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Ogbulu. Additionally, ABSU emerged as the 3rd most improved institution in gender balance for admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

In his address to the Senate, Professor Ogbulu announced that vacancies for admission into certain courses of study are still available for the 2023/2024 academic session. He encouraged qualified prospective students seeking admission into ABSU to apply to these areas before the closure of the admission portal.

The restoration of ABSU's CBT Centre status by JAMB, coupled with the institution's ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and academic standards, reaffirms its position as a leading institution of higher learning in Nigeria.
