In a historic move, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, the Managing Director of Nigerian Satellite Communications Limited (NIGCOMSAT), is set to become the first female guest lecturer to deliver the prestigious Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture (HMML) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The announcement was made by Prof. Emenike Ejiogu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UNN, marking a significant milestone in the bi-annual lecture series which commenced in 1978.

The HMML, established to honor the legacy of Herbert Macaulay, an iconic engineer and Nigeria’s foremost nationalist, has seen notable figures such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Late Dr. Alex Ekwueme grace its stage. Now, Mrs. Egerton-Idehen joins this esteemed list, bringing her expertise and insights to the forefront.

Scheduled for the 3rd and 4th of May 2024, the 20th edition of the HMML will revolve around the theme "Harnessing Practical Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Economic Development." Mrs. Egerton-Idehen, an accomplished engineer herself, has selected the topic "Championing Innovation: A Look at Digital Transformation and Economic Diversification in Nigeria" for her lecture, reflecting the country's pressing need for technological advancement and economic growth.
