KASU Hosts 5-Day Logistics Training in Collaboration with LEARN Logistics

The Department of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Kaduna State University (KASU), in collaboration with Learn Logistics, organized a 5-day intensive training workshop on the Field Trip Structured Practical Program, aimed at equipping students with practical skills and industry knowledge in logistics and supply chain management.

The training, held from Monday, 23rd June to Friday, 27th June 2025, at the Collaboration Study Space, Main Library, KASU, brought together university dignitaries, faculty members, and students.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Usman Abbas, Head of the Department of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, stressed the importance of industry experience for students entering the labor market. “This collaboration will help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical expertise,” he noted.

Mr. Steve Akut, a representative of Learn Logistics, stated that the university relies on industry partners like Learn Logistics to train graduates, award certifications, and support their transition into the workforce. He added that the program would include field visits to logistics companies to observe real-world operations. He also mentioned plans to leverage social media platforms for improved learning access and engagement.

Dr. Ramatu Abdukadir encouraged students to fully commit to the training, emphasizing that the sessions would be hands-on and facilitated by professionals to ensure proper understanding. She thanked the university community for participating and supporting the initiative.

The Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Rahilatu Muhammad Ahmad, highlighted the value of practical exposure and emphasized the importance of collaboration between academia and industry. “Technology partnerships must not be overlooked,” she added.

Prof. Auwal Farouk Abdussalam, Director of Academic Planning, commended Learn Logistics for their commitment and proposed the expansion of the partnership to include the Department of Geography, citing the importance of land as a critical factor in logistics management.

In his remarks, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), advised students to take the training seriously. He noted that beyond earning certificates, the real value lies in acquiring skills. “With the right skills, jobs will chase the students,” he said.

Also speaking, Prof. Yushau I. Ango, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), emphasized that skill acquisition is key in today’s global job market. “Globally, skills are the currency of employment, and programs like this are where those skills are developed. The logistics sector is 100% recognized worldwide,” he stated.

The Vice Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, in his keynote address, expressed pride in the university’s strides in academic and professional development. He noted that KASU is the first university in Nigeria to have a professor in Procurement and Supply Chain Management and the first to initiate a collaboration of this kind with Learn Logistics. “We must take this fundamental sector seriously,” he urged, “as the knowledge it offers is both relevant and essential.”

Delivering the vote of thanks, Prof. Nurudeen Usman Miko appreciated the university for providing a conducive environment for the training. He also thanked Learn Logistics for their commitment and dedication, as well as the students for their active participation.

The workshop reaffirmed KASU’s commitment to bridging academic learning with industry practice and further positioned the university as a forward-thinking institution in the field of supply chain and logistics management.
