KHAIRUN and Kano State CDC Forge Partnership for Public Health Preparedness

Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) hosted a high-level delegation from the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, to establish a strategic collaboration aimed at bolstering disease surveillance and emergency response within the state. 

The visit, led by the Director General of the KNCDC, Prof. Muhammad Adamu Abbas, focused on integrating academic research with practical public health measures to address epidemic-prone diseases. 

The partnership aims to leverage KHAIRUN's academic resources to enhance the state's resilience against health emergencies. Prof. Abbas outlined several key areas for joint effort:

Disease Surveillance & Prevention: Developing proactive systems to monitor and curb outbreaks before they escalate.

Capacity Building: Utilizing university facilities for the training of health responders and researchers.

Research & Data Innovation: Bridging the gap between institutional research and real-world health outcomes.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, reaffirmed the institution's readiness to serve as a hub for public health advancement. He emphasized that the university's academic programmes are designed to support societal transformation and community well-being. 

Professor Garba described the collaboration as "timely and valuable," noting that academic institutions are essential partners in building resilient health systems that can protect the 16 million residents of Kano State.
