KWASU: Centre for Women Development & Entrepreneurship Commissioned in Ilesha Baruba

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, has described the University's Centre for Women Development and Entrepreneurship as an initiative that will promote national economic development through women empowerment.

Professor Jimoh made this statement on Friday, February 9, 2024, at the commissioning of the Ilesha-Baruba arm of the Centre for Women Development and Entrepreneurship.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the committee chairman in charge of the CWD&E, Professor Mubarak Sanni, said the Centre in Ilesha-Baruba will mirror activities of the other two Centres sited in Ilorin and Osi, and offer world class skills acquisition and digital entrepreneurship training to women, free of charge.

Professor Jimoh reiterated that on completion of their training, trainees will be empowered with equipment necessary for a successful entrepreneurship journey adding that the university recognises the important roles women play in the economic base of communities.

The Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, His Royal Highness, Professor Haliru Abubakar, expressed gratitude to the University for the project, said his community was open to innovative ideas that will bring development to the town and its environs.

Professor Abubakar, however, charged management of the University to ensure the sustainability of the centre, saying that "such a laudable initiative should not be abandoned."

Ten women make up the first cohort of trainees at the Ilesha-Baruba CWD&E, and they will acquire skills in tailoring and digital marketing.
