KWASU Denies Minimum Wage Allegation, Says Staff Earn Salaries Comparable to Federal Universities
The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has dismissed claims that its employees are excluded from the implementation of the new minimum wage, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has dismissed claims that its employees are excluded from the implementation of the new minimum wage, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the university's Director of University Relations, Professor Saeedat Aliyu, KWASU said its academic, non-academic and technology staff receive salaries comparable to those paid to their counterparts in federal universities across Nigeria.
The statement was issued in response to an online report alleging that the Kwara State Government's implementation of the ₦100,000 minimum wage did not cover KWASU employees and describing the policy as a publicity stunt.

Refuting the claims, the university clarified that the individuals referenced in the publication are not employees of KWASU but part-time workers engaged to supervise privately owned student hostels located within and around the university community.
According to the management, the workers are neither employed by the university nor paid under its salary structure, making any comparison with KWASU staff inaccurate.
The university further stated that it has continued to benefit from the support of the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that the administration's investments have contributed significantly to improvements in teaching, research and infrastructure development.
KWASU described the publication as lacking factual basis and urged members of the public to disregard the report. It also called on media organisations to verify information thoroughly before publishing reports on the institution.
